The
airports of the New York metropolitan area are the busiest airport
system in the United States. LaGuardia Airport sits at the confluence of
Flushing and Bowery Bays in New York harbor, and is 8 miles (13 km)
from Manhattan. It was taken opened in 1939 and named for the legendary
Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia in 1953. It is the busiest airport in the
United States without international flights.
