The fame of this island is because it serves to a destination for the tourists and it has been rapidly developing since the 1950s through the visiting of a number of academics and artists who choose to live on this island. The visitors to this island persisted to rise with the holiday makers approaching to 3 million a year in the 1970s. by 2010 more than 6 million tourists came to the island and stayed in the resorts. Towards 2013, the island had more than 9.5 million visitors and this was a huge number visiting every year. The holiday makers are basically allured by the huge amount of beaches, the high quality tourist amenities as well as the warm weather.
